Good Morning and Happy Labor Day1

So is everyone having a nice relaxing weekend? I wish we were, but with the impending move and a house to sell, we are busy little bees this weekend.

Since our oldest has gone off to college,we will be busy prepping his room for painting and taking stuff to the thrift store.

Last week we had a yard sale and it has provided the funds we needed for a big expense that was not expected. Since our oldest is attending college in Virginia and we are moving to Hawaii we had to come up with the money to fly him out for Christmas. We had no idea that we would be moving to Hawaii; we just got orders 5 weeks ago. I was not expecting to have to come up with $1300 off budget for this expense and did not see how I could come up with it between August and December.
We raised all the money we needed (DH sold his motorcycle to help pay for it) and we will be purchasing the ticket this weekend. God provided what we needed to both pay for the ticket and rent a storage facility to get stuff out of the house while we paint and clean to get ready to sell our home.

What do you think about yard sales? I grew up with them in the Midwest. They would start every Spring; it was sort of an end of winter social. I remember my aunts getting together to do Spring cleaning, dragging out linens and out-grown children' clothes and toys. I can picture my Aunt Rita standing at the kitchen sink, scrubbing some item she planned to put out for public consideration.
She would be smoking a cigarette and humming along with a song on the radio. She was so excited because for her and other ladies this was a chance to reconnect with family and friends after a long gray winter.

I have never gone in for yard sales, but I have friends who swear by them. And there are folks who live for them. They don't need more stuff but they are enticed by the allure of getting a bargain. Or they just love to argue/negotiate. There was one "gentleman" who came back 3 times and just kept buying stuff, which I am okay with. On his second trip, he brought his son who bought hubby's motorcycle. Then he came back with his wife. Hey, as long as he is willing to pay cash,...

I will up date you on our moving plans next time

Terri
