August 15, 2015

Most of you who know me personally know that I usually answer the question of how I am with, " Never a dull moment!" I need to change that because I think God sees that as a challenge.

First the not so good news. We are moving. We are moving for the first time in 18 years. A little stress there but okay. I married a sailor and have had the unusual privilege of not moving all this time. It was not what I expected as a Navy spouse; I grew up as a Navy brat and we moved a lot. I guess we were due.

The really totally awesome news-WE ARE MOVING TO HAWAII!

Now truth be told there are some difficulties ahead especially in terms of finances. Hawaii is expensive. Very Expensive if you are expecting to live how you live here. So help me out brothers and sisters. How do we move to and live frugally in Hawaii?

The Navy is paying for the move itself, but there are other costs and out of pockets we have to cover until we can get reimbursed.  (Getting the dog there is going to be an expensive ordeal but that cannot be helped.)

Also we are moving into a much bigger house and we will need to entertain. I will need to get some real grown up furniture. (Goodby old reliable, indestructible This End Up furniture.) I don't mind and I did want to get some nice stuff eventually but now I have to so how do I do it inexpensively. Should I sell my stuff here and buy some nice used stuff and send it to Oahu or wait and buy it there. I already have a  list of some thrift store in the Honolulu are I can check out (of course I do)..

Any suggestions?
